Welcome to CounterCulture Quilts

Welcome to my world. My name is Karen Elwell and I create original art quilt wall hangings. As a fiber/textile artist, I work primarily with fabrics, threads and yarns, but I am not against occasionally adding a little paint, plastic, metal or paper to my creations.

I like to try new things in between quilt-making. I might make a journal from scratch, or create a new cyanotype print or hand dye a bit of cloth to get just the right color. Recently, I have become fascinated with eco-printing on both fabric and paper. All of this experimentation can only make me a better artist.
